What to ask on a player registration form

By the DesiAuction team · Thu, 1 Oct 2026 · 4 min read

A registration form is the league's first impression and its database. Ask too little and owners bid blind; ask too much and half the players give up on page two. Here is what earns its place.

Always

  • Name, as it should appear on the auction screen and the team sheet.
  • Mobile number — every player needs one, and it is never shown on a public page.
  • Playing role, as a choice from a fixed list rather than a text box, so 'all rounder', 'AR' and 'allrounder' do not become three roles.

Usually

  • For cricket, batting and bowling style — the detail owners actually bid on.
  • Date of birth, if you run age groups, or if you need to know who is under 18.
  • A photo, with the player's consent; it makes the auction screen feel like a real auction.

Only if you will use it

Jersey name and number, and T-shirt size, if you are printing kit. Every extra question costs you registrations, so leave out anything you will not act on.

Wording matters

If you collect with a Google Form, title each question the way the registration form template does and the responses import into DesiAuction without renaming a single column. Choices from a fixed list import cleanly; free text has to be tidied by hand.

A child's name and photo deserve extra care. A photo is only shown publicly when the player is a known adult, and squad pages stay out of search while any player's age is unproven.
