Player auction rules: a template for your league

By the DesiAuction team · Thu, 1 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

Most arguments at an auction are about rules nobody wrote down. Agree these with every owner before the night, share them in writing, and the evening is about players instead of procedure. Adapt the numbers; keep the structure.

1. Money

  • Every team starts with the same purse.
  • Bids rise in fixed steps, and a bid off the step is not accepted.
  • No team may bid more than it has left, or so much that it cannot complete its minimum squad at the base price.

2. Squads

  • Each team buys between the minimum and maximum squad size.
  • A team at its maximum squad stops bidding.

3. Players placed before the auction

  • Captains join their teams before the auction and are not in the pool.
  • Icon players, if the league has them, are placed the same way.
  • Retained players — kept from last season — are placed before the auction too.

4. Players nobody buys

A player with no bid passes for now and comes back in a later round. On any public screen they have passed, not gone unsold; they are someone's teammate next week.

5. Mistakes

If a sale lands on the wrong team, the auctioneer reopens it straight away and the correction is recorded rather than erased. Decide in advance who may undo a sale — on DesiAuction it takes an owner-level grant, not just the auctioneer's controls.
